China Claims Six More Gold Medals at Asian Winter Games in Harbin
It was a golden day for China at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, as athletes added six more gold medals to their tally on Monday.
On the speed skating track, China dominated by winning all three available titles. Gao Tingyu clinched the men’s 500-meter final in a thrilling finish, clocking 34.95 seconds. He edged out Japan’s Wataru Morishige by just 0.02 seconds, while Kim Jun-ho of the Republic of Korea secured the bronze with a time of 35.03 seconds.
In the women’s 3,000-meter speed skating event, Chinese skaters swept the podium. Yang Binyu took gold with a time of 4:08.54, followed closely by Han Mei who claimed silver in 4:09.06. Tai Zhien earned the bronze, finishing in 4:12.01.
The success continued in the men’s team sprint, where Gao Tingyu, Lian Ziwen, and Ning Zhongyan secured the title for the hosts with a time of 1:19.22. The Republic of Korea finished second, and Japan took third place.
China’s prowess wasn’t limited to the ice. On the snow, three out of four skiing gold medals were claimed by Chinese athletes. In freestyle skiing mixed team aerials, the trio of Xu Mengtao, Li Xinpeng, and Qi Guangpu soared to victory with 305.64 points, a remarkable 70-point lead over silver medalists Kazakhstan. Japan earned the bronze with 191.28 points.
In snowboarding, Xiong Shirui and Zhao Xiaonan dominated the women’s big air event, capturing gold and silver respectively. Xiong topped the podium with 164 points, surpassing Zhao’s 156.75 points.
Yang Wenlong showcased his talent in the men’s snowboard big air final, winning gold with an impressive 193.25 points. He held a significant advantage over compatriot Jiang Xinjie, who took silver with 160.25 points.
With these victories, China continues to lead the medal count, showcasing their strength and depth in winter sports on home soil.
