Chinese athletes continued to make the host nation proud on Tuesday, clinching six gold medals at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province.
In the women’s aerials synchro freestyle skiing final, two Chinese pairs dominated the podium. Feng Junxi and Wang Xue secured the gold with an impressive score of 87.12 points, narrowly edging out compatriots Xu Mengtao and Chen Meiting, who took silver. The bronze medal went to Kazakhstan’s Ardana Makhanova and Ayana Zholdas.
The success continued in the women’s slopestyle freestyle skiing competition, where Liu Mengting led a 1-2-3 sweep for China. She claimed the top spot with 94.00 points, while Yang Ruiyi grabbed silver and Han Linshan completed the all-Chinese podium with bronze.
Chinese speed skaters also had a spectacular day, pocketing all four gold medals on offer. Ning Zhongyan continued his dominance on the ice by winning the men’s 1,000-meter final in 1:08.81, holding off South Korea’s Cha Min-kyu, who took silver, and fellow Chinese skater Lian Ziwen, who earned bronze.
In the women’s 1,500-meter final, Han Mei finished first with a time of 1:15.85, edging out teammate Yin Qi by just 0.23 seconds. South Korea’s Lee Nah-yun secured the bronze.
China also grabbed both the men’s and women’s team pursuit titles. The men’s team of Liu Hanbin, Wu Yu, and Hanahati Muhamaiti beat rivals from South Korea and Japan. On the women’s side, Yang Binyu, Ahenaer Adake, and Han Mei outpaced the same pair of East Asian competitors to claim gold.
