Chinese figure skating star Jin Boyang has withdrawn from the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, due to a lingering back injury. Despite his absence, Jin remains optimistic about his future and is cheering on his fellow athletes as they take the ice.
In a special interview with CGTN Sports Scene’s Greg Laffradi, Jin, 27, opened up about the challenges he’s faced. “My back has been troubling me for some time now,” he said. “Years of intense training and competition have taken their toll, and I’ve had to make significant adjustments both physically and mentally.”
The figure skating events at the Asian Winter Games kicked off on Tuesday, featuring the ice dance rhythm dance program, the pairs short program, and the men’s short program. Chinese skaters are competing in all three categories, and Jin has high hopes for his teammates. “I believe they’ll deliver outstanding performances,” he said. “I’m supporting them all the way.”
While recovery is his immediate focus, Jin’s sights are set firmly on the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. After narrowly missing the podium with a fourth-place finish at the 2018 PyeongChang Games, he’s more determined than ever to secure a medal. “My goal hasn’t changed,” Jin affirmed. “I’m aiming for the podium next time.”
Jin’s dedication and resilience continue to inspire fans worldwide. As he works towards making a full recovery, the figure skating community eagerly anticipates his return to the ice.
