China Calls on U.S. and Japan to Stop Manipulating China-Related Issues
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has called on the United States and Japan to halt their interference in China’s internal affairs and stop manipulating issues related to China, especially concerning Taiwan.
Spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks during a regular press briefing on Wednesday. Responding to reports of U.S. and Japanese defense ministers discussing the Taiwan question in late March, Guo expressed China’s strong dissatisfaction with their joint statement, which he said contained irresponsible comments about Taiwan.
“The Taiwan question is purely China’s internal affair and the core of China’s core interests,” Guo stated. “It allows no foreign interference.”
He emphasized that both the U.S. and Japanese governments have made solemn commitments to China on the Taiwan question. “We urge the U.S. and Japan to abide by the one-China principle and honor their commitments,” he said. “They should stop manipulating China-related issues and interfering in our internal affairs.”
Guo also reminded Japan of its historical responsibilities. “Japan, in particular, bears serious historical responsibilities for its past aggression against Taiwan and colonial rule over the island,” he noted. “It should act prudently on the Taiwan question.”
China has lodged stern representations with both countries, expressing its strong dissatisfaction and urging them to cease their interference.
