Harbin, a vibrant city in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, transformed into a global winter wonderland as winter sports enthusiasts, international media, students, volunteers, and locals gathered at Sun Island on Tuesday. The occasion? An exciting snowman-building social campaign that united people from around the world in creativity and friendship.
Six energetic teams used materials available on-site to craft their own unique snowmen, each reflecting diverse cultural characteristics and boundless imagination. From traditional snow sculptures to inventive creations using paper cups, rice balls, and even coffee, the event showcased the limitless possibilities of snow artistry.
This event was part of a global online social campaign—”Building a Big Snowman for Harbin 2025″—jointly launched by CGTN, the Heilongjiang Bureau of China Media Group, and the 9th Asian Winter Games Harbin 2025 Organizing Committee. The campaign aims to celebrate and promote the upcoming 9th Asian Winter Games, set to take place in Harbin in 2025.
Since its launch, the campaign has ignited enthusiasm among netizens worldwide. People have eagerly participated by creating unique and imaginative snowmen using materials at hand, all while cheering for Harbin and the Asian Winter Games.
At Sun Island, attendees enjoyed a compilation of videos showcasing the variety of snowmen crafted by contributors from across the globe. The event not only celebrated the joy of ice and snow but also fostered mutual understanding and friendship through cultural exchange.
“Harbin is my second hometown,” said Munmun Ahmed Shanto, a Bangladeshi volunteer who has lived in the city for six years. “The most beautiful thing about Harbin is the snow, which is perfect for those who love winter and want to experience a true winter wonderland. Being able to volunteer for the Asian Winter Games is a great honor for me.”
The snowman-building campaign embodies the spirit of global unity and the excitement building up for the Harbin 2025 Asian Winter Games. It invites everyone, especially the youth, to join in the celebration and share in the unforgettable experience of winter in Harbin.
