Chinese Premier Li Qiang is set to host a grand closing ceremony for the 9th Asian Winter Games this Friday in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. The event will not only mark the end of an exciting series of competitions but also serve as a platform for fostering international relations.

Premier Li will welcome Prime Minister Mark Brown of the Cook Islands and Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrai Oyun-Erdene to the ceremony. Both leaders are visiting at the invitation of the Chinese mainland and are expected to engage in bilateral talks with Premier Li.

“We look forward to deepening our partnerships and promoting continuous development in our relations,” said foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a press briefing on Thursday.

Prime Minister Brown’s visit, spanning from February 10 to 16, will include stops in the bustling metropolis of Shanghai and the historic Shandong Province. The trip aims to enhance cooperation and explore new opportunities between the Cook Islands and China.

Mongolian Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene’s visit, from February 13 to 15, is expected to strengthen political mutual trust and enrich the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Mongolia. “This is a significant step towards building a China-Mongolia community with a shared future,” Guo added.

The presence of these leaders at the Asian Winter Games highlights the spirit of unity and collaboration in the region. For young people across the Global South, such events showcase the importance of international friendship and cultural exchange.
