London, October 26 — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for strengthened cooperation between China and the United Kingdom to bring more stability and certainty to an increasingly turbulent world. During a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday, Wang emphasized the importance of unity in addressing global challenges.
Wang noted that the world is experiencing rapid changes with historical shifts unfolding at an accelerated pace. “As permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, it’s crucial for China and the UK to enhance strategic communication and mutual understanding,” he said. “Together, we can demonstrate the responsibility of major powers in maintaining global stability.”
The two leaders discussed collaboration in key areas vital to the future of humanity, including climate change, artificial intelligence, and green development. Wang highlighted the positive momentum in Sino-British relations and the significant potential for practical cooperation between the two nations.
“The UK’s Labour government is pursuing a rational and pragmatic policy toward China, aligning with both national interests and global trends,” Wang stated. He affirmed China’s commitment to working with the UK to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state. “We aim to stabilize and enhance the positive development of our bilateral relations,” he added, emphasizing the importance of expanding cooperation in infrastructure, trade and investment, and clean energy sectors.
Prime Minister Starmer echoed Wang’s sentiments, stressing the importance of advancing pragmatic cooperation across various fields. “It’s essential that China-UK relations continue to develop in a stable and constructive manner,” Starmer said.
During his visit to the UK, Wang also met with Jonathan Powell, the British prime minister’s national security advisor, to discuss strategic security and other issues of mutual concern. Additionally, he held the 10th round of China-UK Strategic Dialogue with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, where both sides reaffirmed the importance of ongoing dialogue between the two nations.
The meetings mark a significant step toward enhancing cooperation and understanding between China and the UK, signaling a shared commitment to addressing global challenges and promoting international stability.
