Munich, Germany – China is committed to promoting an equal and orderly multipolar world, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Munich Security Conference on Friday. Wang emphasized that China will remain a constructive force amid global changes.
Addressing the conference’s theme of “multipolarization,” Wang noted that the world is becoming more interconnected yet complex. “When the United Nations was founded in 1945, there were 51 member states. Today, there are 193,” Wang said, highlighting that a multipolar world is a historical necessity and is becoming a reality.
Wang stressed the importance of mutual respect, adherence to international law, practicing multilateralism, and pursuing win-win development to build a fair global order. He stated, “The lessons from the past show that unequal orders are doomed to collapse, and the democratization of international relations is unstoppable.”
Commending the Munich Security Conference for inviting more countries from the Global South, Wang expressed that every nation can find its place in the multipolar landscape. He added that China has acceded to over 600 international conventions, injecting certainty into an uncertain world.
Wang also highlighted China’s contributions to global governance through initiatives like the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative. “In a time when protectionism is on the rise, China will uphold openness and cooperation to support a multipolar world that benefits all,” he said.
