Veteran freeskier Xu Mengtao has been chosen to carry the Chinese national flag at the closing ceremony of the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, the Chinese delegation announced on Thursday.
Expressing her excitement on social media, Xu shared her pride in being selected as the flagbearer. She emphasized the honor of representing her country and the responsibility to showcase the best qualities of Chinese athletes.
This marks the second time Xu will lead the delegation as flagbearer at a major international sports event, following her role at the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022.
At the Asian Winter Games, Xu competed in three events: women’s aerials, mixed team, and women’s synchro. She secured two gold medals and one silver, further solidifying her status as one of China’s top winter athletes.
