China and France Pledge to Boost Global Stability and Growth

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on China and France to join forces in promoting global stability and economic growth. The appeal came during his meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot at the 61st Munich Security Conference.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the significant influence both nations hold on the world stage. He highlighted the strategic value of China-France relations, urging both countries to uphold traditions of independence and self-reliance. “China and France should act as stabilizing forces in maintaining international order and fostering global growth,” Wang said.

Addressing trade tensions between China and the European Union, Wang expressed optimism for resolving frictions. He noted that as comprehensive strategic partners, China and the EU have the wisdom and capability to overcome challenges through constructive dialogue. “We hope the EU will uphold open cooperation and support free trade,” he added.

French Foreign Minister Barrot praised China’s commitment to multilateralism, acknowledging its vital role in global governance. “France values China’s firm and clear voice at the Munich Security Conference,” Barrot said. He expressed France’s readiness to strengthen high-level exchanges with China and deepen economic and trade relations. “Together, we can resist protectionism and promote international solidarity,” he stated.

The two diplomats also discussed pressing global issues, including artificial intelligence, climate change, and maritime cooperation. They agreed to enhance cooperation in addressing these challenges, emphasizing the need for international unity.

On the Ukraine conflict, Wang reiterated China’s position and principles, expressing hope for progress in peace talks and the establishment of a sustainable European security framework. Both sides agreed on the importance of promoting de-escalation in the Gaza conflict and returning to the two-state solution.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to work collaboratively in tackling global challenges and improving international governance.
