China’s Wang Yi Urges Mutual Respect in U.S. Relations
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that mutual respect is the cornerstone for developing relations between China and the United States. Speaking on Friday at the “China in the World” event during the Munich Security Conference, Wang highlighted the importance of this principle as a prerequisite for exchanges between the two countries.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, responded to questions about China-U.S. ties by outlining China’s approach based on three principles: mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.
“China and the United States must not engage in conflict; otherwise, the world will suffer,” Wang stated. He called for efforts to strengthen dialogue, enhance understanding, and build trust between the two nations.
He emphasized that both countries should collaborate to address global challenges, noting that it is an international responsibility they share. “China is ready to build stable, sound, and sustainable relations with the U.S., and find the right way to get along,” Wang said, expressing hope that the U.S. can meet China halfway.
However, Wang cautioned that if the U.S. continues to suppress and contain China, China will resolutely fight back against unilateral bullying to safeguard its national sovereignty, dignity, and legitimate development rights.
The remarks come at a time when global cooperation is essential to tackle issues like climate change, economic recovery, and public health crises. Wang’s statements underscore China’s willingness to work with the U.S. for the benefit of both nations and the world at large.
