China’s Wang Yi Urges Peace Talks to Resolve Ukraine Crisis
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for peaceful negotiations to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing China’s support for any efforts that contribute to peace. Speaking at the “China in the World” event during the Munich Security Conference, Wang highlighted the importance of dialogue and consultation in resolving international disputes.
“The endpoint of any conflict is negotiation,” Wang stated. “China welcomes all efforts committed to peace.”
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, responded to questions about China-Russia relations, noting that the two nations maintain a comprehensive strategic partnership characterized by non-alliance, non-confrontation, and not targeting any third party.
“China and Russia have normal economic and trade exchanges,” he added, addressing concerns about oil and gas trade between the two countries.
Reiterating China’s position on the Ukraine crisis, Wang emphasized that China did not create the situation and is not a party to the conflict. “China has always advocated for dialogue, consultation, and a political settlement,” he said. “We have consistently called for resolving the crisis through peaceful means.”
Wang underscored the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, adhere to the principles of the United Nations Charter, and take seriously the legitimate security concerns of all nations. “All efforts conducive to a peaceful settlement of the crisis should be supported,” he stressed.
As part of its commitment to peace, China has actively engaged in diplomatic mediation and has launched a “Friends of Peace” group with Brazil and other countries of the Global South. Wang expressed hope that all parties and stakeholders will participate in the peace talks process promptly.
“China welcomes all efforts committed to peace, including the peace talks consensus reached by the United States and Russia,” he said. “Europe needs to play a role for peace, jointly solve the root causes of the crisis, and achieve long-term peace and stability on the continent.”
The Chinese foreign minister’s remarks highlight China’s stance on promoting peaceful resolutions and reflect a broader consensus within the international community for ending the conflict in Ukraine through negotiation and cooperation.
