Indonesia Triumphs Over China to Win Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship
In an intense showdown at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship in Qingdao, east China’s Shandong Province, Indonesia emerged victorious over the Chinese mainland with a 3-1 win on Sunday, clinching the coveted title.
The finals kicked off with Indonesia securing the first point as Rinov Rivaldy and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti dominated the mixed doubles match, defeating Gao Jiaxuan and Wu Mengying 21-11, 21-13.
Building on this momentum, Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan triumphed in the men’s singles, overcoming Hu Zhean in straight sets. “Today I didn’t perform well, especially in terms of tactical discipline,” admitted Hu, who had previously won three out of four matches in the tournament. “I’ve learned a lot these days. I didn’t give up when I was behind, and I tried my best to catch up every time. Also, I’m more confident now.”
The Chinese mainland fought back in the women’s singles as Xu Wenjing delivered a commanding performance, defeating Putri Kusuma Wardani 21-12, 21-13, narrowing the gap to 2-1. “I did feel nervous on the court, but I had already thought about all kinds of difficulties I might face and how to handle them. So nothing could affect my performance. I’m very proud that I earned one point for my team,” Xu said.
However, the decisive men’s doubles match saw Indonesia’s Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Daniel Marthin overpower Chen Xujun and Huang Di 21-15, 21-9, sealing the championship for Indonesia.
This victory marks a significant achievement for Indonesia, showcasing their strength in badminton on the Asian stage. The Indonesian team’s triumph prevented the Chinese mainland from defending their title, highlighting the competitive spirit and rising talents in the sport.
