Sichuan Landslide Death Toll Rises to 10; 19 Still Missing

At least ten people have lost their lives and nineteen are missing after a landslide struck southwest China’s Sichuan Province, local authorities reported on Monday.

The disaster occurred at 11:50 a.m. on February 8 in Jinping Village, located in Junlian County of Yibin City. Initially, officials reported one death, two injuries, and 28 missing persons last week.

Rescue teams have been working tirelessly to locate the missing individuals amid challenging terrain. The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Reconstruction efforts are now underway to restore normal life for the affected residents, according to authorities. The community is coming together to support those impacted by the tragedy.

Landslides are a common hazard in the region due to its mountainous landscape and can be exacerbated by factors such as heavy rainfall and seismic activity. Officials are urging residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert and follow safety guidelines.
