Wetland Attracts Increasing Numbers of Swans in Xinjiang

Record Number of Swans Flock to Xinjiang’s Swan Spring Wetland

A record number of swans have been spotted at the Swan Spring Wetland in Yining County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. This winter, the wetland has become a haven for these graceful birds, drawing nature enthusiasts and researchers alike.

Thanks to underground springs, the waters of the wetland remain unfrozen during the harsh winter months. This unique feature creates an ideal environment for migratory birds to overwinter, including various species of swans.

Since the early 1990s, the number of swans spending the winter at the wetland has been steadily increasing. The warm waters provide ample food and a safe resting place, making it a popular stopover for swans migrating from colder regions.

Local conservation efforts have played a significant role in preserving the natural habitat. Protections put in place have ensured that the swans and other wildlife can thrive without disturbance, highlighting the region’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

The sight of swans foraging and playing in the serene waters has become a captivating attraction for both residents and visitors. It stands as a testament to the rich biodiversity of Xinjiang and the successful efforts to maintain and protect its natural wonders.
