Chinese Paddlers Dominate Asia Cup Openers in Shenzhen

China’s top table tennis players kicked off the Asia Cup in Shenzhen, south China’s Guangdong Province, with impressive victories in both the men’s and women’s singles events on Wednesday.

World No. 1 Sun Yingsha showcased her prowess by defeating Chien Tung-Chuan of Chinese Taipei in straight games, winning 11-2, 11-8, 11-6 in under 22 minutes. Sun took an early lead in the first game, conceding only two points. Despite Chien’s efforts to close the gap in the second game, Sun maintained her dominance to secure a 2-0 lead. The third game saw a brief tie at 4-4 before Sun surged ahead, sealing the match decisively.

In the men’s singles, newly-crowned world No. 1 Lin Shidong overcame Wong Chun-ting of Hong Kong, China, with a score of 11-7, 11-4, 11-3. After a competitive start, Lin capitalized on Wong’s errors to take the first game. He increased his aggression in the following games, leaving Wong little opportunity to respond and securing a swift victory.

The victories by Sun and Lin highlight China’s strong position in the tournament as they aim for top honors on home soil.
