China Denounces US Changes to State Department’s China Relations Page

Beijing — China’s Foreign Ministry has strongly criticized recent alterations made by the United States on its State Department’s “U.S.-China Relations” webpage and corresponding fact sheet. The changes, according to China, distort facts, attack its foreign policy, and promote the notion of strategic competition between the two nations.

Speaking at a regular press briefing on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun expressed China’s firm opposition. “We strongly deplore and firmly oppose it,” Guo stated, addressing reports that the updates emphasize economic tensions, highlight the U.S.-China trade deficit, and allege unfair competition practices by China.

Guo emphasized that China’s policy toward the U.S. remains consistent and clear. “China is committed to viewing and developing China-U.S. ties in line with the three principles put forth by President Xi Jinping: mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation,” he said. “We are equally determined to defend our sovereignty, security, and development interests.”

The spokesperson urged the U.S. to honor the important common understandings reached during the recent phone call between the two presidents. “The U.S. should stop misleading its people and the international community, and stop smearing and putting pressure on China,” Guo added.

He called on the United States to approach China-U.S. relations objectively and rationally. “We hope the U.S. will work with China to promote the steady, sound, and sustainable development of our relationship,” he concluded.
