At the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Angola’s Foreign Minister Tete Antonio came together to strengthen the friendship between their countries.
Wang Yi spoke about the deep ties between China and Angola, reminding everyone of their shared history in fighting against imperialism and colonialism. “We’ve stood together in tough times and now we continue to work together for development and growth,” Wang said.
He highlighted how the partnership has helped Angola rebuild and boost its economy, bringing real benefits to its people. Wang Yi assured that China doesn’t seek personal gain in Africa and respects African countries’ independence. “We fully support African unity and are committed to strong relationships with African nations,” he added.
Tete Antonio thanked China for its support in Angola’s development. He talked about Angolan President João Lourenço’s visit to China last year, where key agreements were made with Chinese President Xi Jinping. “Our cooperation has reached new heights, and it’s making a real difference for our people,” Antonio said.
Looking ahead, Angola wants to work even more closely with China in areas like trade, investment, finance, and energy. Antonio emphasized that Angola stands firmly with China on important issues and is ready to boost cooperation as it takes on the presidency of the African Union.
