At the recent G20 meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met to discuss strengthening China-Russia relations. Both leaders emphasized their commitment to deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the steady progress in cooperation between the two nations. “The China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era is advancing to a higher level and broader dimensions,” Wang said. He noted that both countries have made significant strides in mutually beneficial cooperation and effective strategic coordination, playing a crucial role in safeguarding their common interests and promoting global multipolarity.
China expressed its willingness to fully implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and further advance China-Russia relations in the new year.
Sergey Lavrov echoed these sentiments, stating that Russia is eager to strengthen high-level exchanges with China. “Russia is willing to work with China to deepen practical cooperation in economy, trade, finance, culture, and other fields,” Lavrov said. He emphasized that both countries uphold multipolarity and serve as stabilizing forces in a complex and turbulent world.
Lavrov acknowledged the global initiatives put forward by China and the high level of mutual trust between the two nations. He expressed Russia’s readiness to continue strengthening communication and coordination with China within frameworks such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the United Nations, and the G20.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern, including the situation in the Middle East.
