China and South Africa Vow to Strengthen Ties and Boost Global Development

In a significant move to bolster international cooperation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to strengthen ties between the two countries. The leaders pledged to deepen practical cooperation and work together towards global development.

President Ramaphosa expressed his heartfelt gratitude to China for its steadfast support during South Africa’s struggle for national independence and its valuable assistance in accelerating national development. “We cherish the high-level mutual trust between our nations and regard China as a reliable friend,” Ramaphosa stated. He reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to the one-China policy and expressed willingness to advance the all-round strategic cooperative partnership.

Wang Yi highlighted the strong bond between the Chinese mainland and South Africa, noting that the two nations have always understood and supported each other. “Our close exchanges and coordination demonstrate the high level of our bilateral relations,” Wang said. Amidst a complex global landscape, he emphasized China’s resolve to maintain strategic focus and manage its own affairs while pursuing Chinese modernization.

“China stands ready to work with South Africa and other countries to promote global modernization,” Wang added. He appreciated South Africa’s adherence to the one-China principle and its stance on the right side of history. Wang assured that China will continue to be a trustworthy and reliable friend and partner, providing assistance within its capacity as South Africa pursues development and revitalization.

Both leaders acknowledged the important roles their countries play in the Global South. Wang Yi expressed support for South Africa as it fulfills its responsibilities as the G20 presidency, advocating for development to be placed at the center of the international agenda. He emphasized the need to amplify the voice of the Global South, enhance unity, and pool efforts of developing countries to urge the G20 to contribute to global growth and the well-being of people worldwide.
