Players from the host nation continued their winning streak at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)-Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) Asian Cup in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, on Friday.
In the women’s singles event, China’s third seed Wang Yidi soared past Jordan’s Rinad El-Hasani with scores of 11-4, 11-5, 11-4, clinching victory in just 10 minutes and securing her spot in the next round with three straight wins.
Top seed Sun Yingsha, a home favorite, delivered a commanding performance against Qatar’s Aia Mohamed, winning 11-5, 11-3, 11-3. Sun’s triumph also propelled her to the next stage after dominating her group.
On the men’s side, World No. 1 Lin Shidong of China overcame Saudi Arabia’s Ali Alkhadrawi 11-6, 11-3, 12-10 to conclude the group stage. The third game was particularly intense, with Alkhadrawi leading 10-8 before Lin rallied to score three consecutive points, sealing the match.
Earlier, China’s second seed Wang Chuqin defeated Japan’s Yukiya Uda 11-8, 11-8, 11-7 for his second victory. Wang is set to face Qatar’s Ahmed Korani on Friday night.
