Chinese Foreign Minister Calls for Two-State Solution to Achieve Peace in Gaza
In a recent phone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that a lasting peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be achieved through the two-state solution.
Returning from the Group of 20 (G20) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, Wang Yi engaged in in-depth discussions on regional issues with Abdelatty. The Egyptian Foreign Minister provided updates on the latest developments in Gaza, highlighting Egypt’s commitment to fully implementing the ceasefire agreement and collaborating with other Arab nations on a reconstruction plan.
“Egypt opposes the forced displacement of the Palestinian people,” Abdelatty stated, underscoring his country’s stance on the humanitarian crisis.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, reiterated China’s support for the just position of Arab nations. “China stands with the Arab countries and opposes the forced displacement of the Palestinian people,” he said. “The ceasefire agreement must be fully and effectively implemented.”
He stressed that Gaza is part of Palestinian territory and that any future arrangements must respect the will of the Palestinian people. “Adhering to the principle of ‘Palestinians governing Palestine’ is crucial in post-conflict governance,” Wang Yi noted, emphasizing the urgency of formulating reconstruction and governance plans.
China, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and this month’s rotating president, plays a unique and significant role in global affairs. Abdelatty expressed that Arab countries highly value China’s contribution and hope for its support in restoring peace and rebuilding Gaza.
Wang Yi concluded by stating, “Only by adhering to the two-state solution can the root causes be fully resolved and a lasting peace ultimately achieved.”
The two leaders also exchanged views on issues related to Sudan and Syria, affirming their commitment to regional stability and cooperation.
