Chinese Skaters Shine with Silver and Bronze at Speed Skating World Cup in Poland
Chinese speed skaters Han Mei and Ning Zhongyan delivered outstanding performances at the International Skating Union (ISU) Speed Skating World Cup in Tomaszow Mazowiecki, Poland, securing one silver and one bronze medal for China.
In the women’s 1,000-meter race on Saturday, Han Mei clinched the silver medal with a time of 1:16.31. She was narrowly outpaced by Japan’s Miho Takagi, who took the gold with a time of 1:14.80. Another Japanese skater, Rio Yamada, claimed the bronze with a time of 1:16.33.
Meanwhile, in the men’s 1,000-meter event, Ning Zhongyan captured the bronze medal, finishing the race in 1:08.84. The gold went to Jordan Stolz of the United States, who set a new track record with a time of 1:08.42. Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands secured the silver, finishing in 1:08.78.
Although not medaling, China’s Yang Binyu put up a commendable performance in the women’s 3,000-meter race, finishing sixth with a time of 4:08.37. The event was won by Ragne Wiklund of Norway, who clocked in at 4:03.70. Merel Conijn of the Netherlands and Francesca Lollobrigida of Italy took the silver and bronze, respectively.
The competition saw athletes from around the world vying for top honors, showcasing intense competition and remarkable athleticism. The success of Han Mei and Ning Zhongyan highlights China’s growing strength in speed skating on the international stage.
The ISU Speed Skating World Cup continues with its next stop in Heerenveen, Netherlands, from February 28 to March 2, where athletes will have another opportunity to compete at the highest level.
