China Opposes EU Sanctions on Chinese Firms Over Russia

China’s Ministry of Commerce has voiced strong opposition to the European Union’s decision to include several Chinese firms and individuals in its latest sanctions against Russia. The ministry warned that this move could negatively impact trade relations between China and the EU.

A spokesperson from the ministry stated on Tuesday that the EU’s actions contradict the consensus reached by leaders from both sides. The spokesperson urged the EU to stop listing Chinese companies and individuals and to cease smearing and shifting blame onto the Chinese mainland.

China consistently opposes unilateral sanctions that lack a basis in international law and are not authorized by the United Nations Security Council, the spokesperson emphasized. Supporting peace talks, China firmly believes that dialogue and negotiations are the only viable ways to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

The ministry also noted that China will take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises affected by the EU’s sanctions.
