China Sends Special Envoy to Uruguay for New President’s Inauguration

China is set to send its special envoy, Han Jun, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, to Montevideo to attend the inauguration of Uruguay’s new president, Yamandú Orsi, on March 1. The announcement was made on Wednesday by a spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The invitation was extended by President Luis Lacalle Pou of Uruguay, highlighting the strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations. Han Jun’s attendance underscores the importance China places on its relationship with Uruguay, especially in areas of agriculture and rural development.

Yamandú Orsi, formerly serving as the mayor of Canelones, is set to assume the presidency, marking a new chapter in Uruguay’s political landscape. China’s participation in the inauguration ceremony signifies potential for enhanced cooperation between the two countries.
