The Chinese animated sensation Ne Zha 2 has not only conquered the box office but is also making waves in the merchandise market. According to data from Alibaba, merchandise sales for Ne Zha 2 have soared past 300 million yuan (approximately $41.32 million) across its online shopping platforms, including Taobao and Tmall.
This staggering figure breaks the previous record held by The Wandering Earth 2, making Ne Zha 2 the highest-grossing domestic film and television franchise in the history of Alibaba’s e-commerce platforms. Over two million consumers have purchased Ne Zha-related merchandise on Taobao alone.
Of the total sales, trendy collectibles such as blind boxes, figurines, and trading cards have been particularly popular, accounting for over 200 million yuan. Pop Mart’s “Ne Zha 2: Born Bonded” blind-box series has been a standout hit, selling over 100,000 units on its Tmall flagship store. Due to high demand, pre-orders are now scheduled for delivery by June 30.
The merchandise craze is also contributing to the film’s success in an unexpected way. Many collectibles enthusiasts, drawn by the appealing products, have become interested in the film itself, further boosting its box-office performance.
As of noon on February 27 Beijing Time, Ne Zha 2 had amassed a total box office of more than 13.97 billion yuan (around $1.92 billion), including pre-sales and overseas earnings, according to online movie platform Maoyan. The film has become the highest-grossing animated movie worldwide and ranks among the top eight highest-grossing films of all time.
