In a recent meeting, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized the need to advance the Peaceful China Initiative to a higher level. Presiding over a group study session of the Political Bureau on Friday, Xi highlighted the importance of making the country safer, society more orderly, governance more effective, and the people more satisfied.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, China has witnessed remarkable achievements under the CPC Central Committee’s leadership, balancing rapid economic growth with long-term social stability. Xi stressed that the building of a Peaceful China must only be strengthened, not weakened, to adapt to changing situations and tasks.

“We must resolutely pursue a holistic approach to national security,” Xi stated. He urged all levels of party committees and governments to promptly and effectively address security issues, laying a solid foundation for the country’s long-term stability.

Emphasizing that the Peaceful China Initiative is for the people and relies on the people, Xi called for safeguarding legitimate rights and interests, as well as promoting social fairness and justice. He highlighted that preventing and defusing various risks is a major task, with national political security being the top priority.

Xi also called for strengthened efforts in disaster prevention and mitigation, cyberspace security, and artificial intelligence security, focusing on preventing risks in key areas. He underscored the need to improve crime prevention and control, and to handle public complaints according to the law.

Moreover, Xi emphasized upholding the absolute leadership of the CPC Central Committee over national security and judicial work. He advocated for leveraging modern technologies to enhance the effectiveness of social governance.

During the session, Li Yan, vice president and professor at the Southwest University of Political Science and Law, shared her insights and suggestions on advancing the Peaceful China Initiative.
