China’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Han Jun, acting as President Xi Jinping’s special envoy, attended the inauguration ceremony of Uruguay’s new President, Yamandú Orsi, on Saturday.
On Sunday, Han Jun met with President Orsi at the presidential palace. Han conveyed President Xi’s warm greetings and best wishes, emphasizing the long-standing friendship between China and Uruguay.
“Since establishing diplomatic relations 37 years ago, our countries have enjoyed a model partnership of mutual respect and cooperation,” Han said. “China is committed to elevating our bilateral ties to new heights, bringing greater benefits to our peoples and contributing to global stability.”
President Orsi expressed his gratitude to President Xi for sending a special envoy to his inauguration. “China holds a special place in Uruguay’s foreign relations,” Orsi noted. “Our new government is eager to deepen our comprehensive strategic partnership and enhance cooperation across various fields.”
Both leaders agreed on the importance of defending multilateralism and free trade while working together to address global challenges.
The meeting signals a renewed commitment between China and Uruguay to strengthen their ties and collaborate on international issues that affect both nations.
