The spokesperson for China’s National People’s Congress (NPC), Lou Qinjian, emphasized the crucial role of the country’s system of people’s congresses in ensuring long-term social stability. Speaking at a press briefing ahead of the NPC session scheduled from March 5 to 11, Lou highlighted the system’s importance in guiding China along its socialist path.
“President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, pointed out that over the past 70 years, under the leadership of the CPC, the system of people’s congresses has effectively guaranteed that China has always advanced on the socialist path,” Lou remarked. “It has provided an important institutional safeguard for creating the two miracles of rapid economic development and long-term social stability, demonstrating significant political advantages.”
Lou stated that the NPC will exercise correct, effective, and law-based oversight, playing a vital role in the country’s governance. “We will promote the implementation of the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee, ensure that all state organs exercise their power in accordance with the law, and guarantee that the legitimate rights and interests of the people are safeguarded and realized,” he added.
The spokesperson also underscored the NPC’s commitment to maintaining close ties with the people. “We will ensure that the people’s rights to information, participation, expression, and oversight are implemented in all aspects and throughout the whole process of the NPC’s work,” Lou said.
