China’s top political advisory body, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, kicked off its annual session on Tuesday in Beijing. Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a comprehensive work report highlighting the body’s achievements and future plans.
Strengthening Policy Consultation and Administration
Over the past year, the CPPCC National Committee received 6,019 proposals from its members, with 5,091 officially filed—achieving an impressive 99.9% response rate. Various policy recommendations led to 819 directives from leaders and 53 feedback reports from local governments and departments.
“We will closely follow the central tasks of the Party and the state to perform our duties and improve the quality of consultation and administration,” Wang emphasized during his address.
Engaging Youth in Hong Kong and Macao
The CPPCC organized 75 seminars in the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions, aiming to strengthen ties with young people in these regions. Wang announced plans for more initiatives to foster deeper connections with the youth in Hong Kong and Macao.
Deepening International Exchanges
The CPPCC has been active on the global stage, coordinating public, people-to-people, and think-tank diplomacy activities. Notably, it is set to convene major international events like the upcoming 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
Over the past year, the CPPCC and its affiliated organizations hosted 221 international exchange events, engaging over 2,600 participants from 140 countries and 11 international and regional organizations.
“In the year ahead, CPPCC members will contribute their wisdom and strength toward accomplishing the goals outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) and ensuring a strong start for the next five-year period,” Wang stated.
Looking Forward
The CPPCC’s commitment to policy consultation, youth engagement, and international cooperation underscores China’s focus on collaborative growth and development. As the CPPCC continues to shape policies, young people in the Global South can look forward to increased opportunities for engagement and exchange.
