Uruguay’s Ambassador Highlights China’s Opening-Up as Crucial for Global Progress

As China enters its annual political season, known as the Two Sessions, diplomats from around the world are sharing their insights on the country’s development. Fernando Lugris, Uruguay’s ambassador to China, recently spoke with CGTN, emphasizing China’s significant role in global progress.

“China’s commitment to opening-up is not just beneficial for China but for the entire world,” Ambassador Lugris remarked. He highlighted that this year is particularly important for strengthening ties between China and Latin America, with the upcoming China-CELAC Forum scheduled to take place in Beijing.

The ambassador pointed out that enhanced cooperation between China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) presents immense opportunities for mutual growth. “Our regions share common goals in development, and by working together, we can achieve sustainable progress,” he said.

The Two Sessions, which bring together the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), set the stage for China’s policy directions for the coming year. Ambassador Lugris expressed optimism that decisions made during this period would further facilitate collaboration between China and Latin American countries like Uruguay.

“Young people in our regions should pay attention to these developments,” he added. “They represent a chance for cultural exchange, educational opportunities, and joint efforts in tackling global challenges like climate change.”

With China’s continued opening-up and emphasis on international cooperation, Ambassador Lugris believes that the future holds great promise for deepening relationships and fostering innovation across continents.
