Beijing—China’s most senior leaders gathered on Thursday to discuss the nation’s future at the ongoing sessions of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) and the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
Premier Li Qiang met with NPC deputies from Hebei Province and emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities from the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. He urged progress in building the Xiong’an New Area to high standards, improving infrastructure, and creating a better living environment.
Earlier, Premier Li joined discussions with political advisors from the economic and agricultural sectors. He highlighted the need for proactive and effective macroeconomic policies and stressed promoting urbanization and revitalizing rural areas to achieve this year’s goals.
Top legislator Zhao Leji attended a meeting with political advisors from the China Zhi Gong Party, the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and others focused on international friendship. He called for enhanced efforts in consultation and democratic oversight, hoping they would align services for overseas Chinese with national interests.
Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, met with advisors from the religious sector. He encouraged the development of religions that fit China’s context and emphasized understanding the Communist Party’s policies on religious affairs.
Cai Qi, a key member of the Communist Party’s Central Committee, discussed with advisors from social sciences and the media. He urged them to leverage their expertise to advance modernization and contribute to the development of philosophy, social sciences, and media.
Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang engaged with advisors from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions. He stressed the importance of upholding the “one country, two systems” principle, maintaining prosperity and stability, and integrating these regions into the country’s overall development.
Li Xi, head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, met with advisors from youth, trade unions, and women’s federations. He encouraged them to offer suggestions on reform, high-quality development, and the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan. He also emphasized the need to continue the fight against corruption.
These senior leaders are all members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, playing pivotal roles in steering the nation’s direction.
