Wang Yi Stresses China us Cooperation Opposes Decoupling

China’s Wang Yi Urges Cooperation with U.S., Warns Against Decoupling

At a recent press conference during the 14th National People’s Congress in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of cooperation between China and the United States. Responding to a question about China-U.S. competition in technology, Wang warned against policies that encourage decoupling and supply chain disruptions.

“‘High fences and small yards’ cannot suppress the spirit of innovation,” Wang Yi stated, using a metaphor to criticize restrictive trade measures. “Decoupling and supply chain disruption will only lead to self-isolation.”

He highlighted that the business relations between China and the U.S. are built on mutual reciprocity. “Cooperation will bring about mutual benefits and win-win results,” Wang said, underscoring the two-way nature of their economic interactions.

Wang Yi cautioned against attempts to suppress China while expecting to maintain good relations. “One should not fantasize that it can suppress China and maintain good relations with China at the same time,” he asserted. He added that China would “definitely take countermeasures in response to arbitrary pressure.”

The foreign minister’s remarks come amid rising tensions over technology and trade between the two nations. His emphasis on collaboration reflects a call for a more constructive approach to addressing bilateral challenges.
