Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the necessity for China and the United States to seek peaceful coexistence, stating that both nations will share the planet for a long time. Speaking on Friday, Wang highlighted mutual respect as a crucial foundation for China-U.S. relations.
\”One should not fantasize that it can suppress China and maintain good relations with China at the same time,\” Wang remarked, addressing recent actions by the U.S. government.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, criticized the U.S. decision to impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods using the fentanyl issue as a pretext. He asserted that the misuse of fentanyl in the United States is a problem that needs to be addressed domestically.
\”The United States should not return good with evil or impose arbitrary tariffs,\” he said, emphasizing that China will take necessary countermeasures in response to undue pressure.
Highlighting the importance of cooperation, Wang stated that China-U.S. business relations are built on reciprocal interactions that yield mutual benefits. \”Cooperation will bring about mutual benefit and a win-win situation,\” he noted.
Wang Yi reiterated China’s stance against power politics and hegemony, affirming, \”New China stands firmly on the side of international justice.\” He added, \”We in China believe that friends should be permanent, and we should pursue common interests.\”
