Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday called on countries of the Global South to strengthen unity and pursue collective development.
“The dynamism of the sweeping winds and surging clouds in the world today originates from the south. The hallmark of our era is the prominent, growing strength of the Global South,” said Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
With over 40 percent of the global economy and contributing 80 percent to world economic growth, the Global South has become a key force in maintaining international peace, driving global development, and improving governance, the Chinese foreign minister pointed out.
“The Global South holds the key to bringing stability to the world and making it a better place,” he added.
Wang stressed the importance of forming a united voice in the international arena, safeguarding common interests, and enhancing representation in global governance.
“We should insist on placing development at the center of the international agenda, cultivate development momentum, enhance development capacity, and walk hand in hand on the road to modernization,” Wang noted.
He affirmed China’s commitment to the Global South, stating, “No matter how the international landscape evolves, China will always keep the Global South in our heart and maintain our roots in the Global South.”
