Over 230 political advisors from Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions (SARs) have traveled to Beijing, aiming to strengthen ties and foster deeper integration with the Chinese mainland. These advisors are bringing forward suggestions and proposals to enhance their cities’ roles in national development.
Li Zhao spoke with members of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) representing Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR. They shared insights on leveraging the unique advantages of the two SARs, particularly their financial strengths and global connections.
The advisors emphasized the importance of aligning Hong Kong and Macao’s development strategies with national goals. By integrating more closely, they believe the SARs can contribute significantly to China’s economic growth while also benefiting from new opportunities.
One advisor highlighted the potential for Hong Kong to strengthen its position as an international financial center by collaborating more closely with mainland markets. Similarly, Macao could expand its role in cultural exchanges and tourism.
The advisors are hopeful that their proposals will pave the way for policies that facilitate seamless integration, enabling Hong Kong and Macao to tap into the vast opportunities presented by China’s ongoing development.
