Youth in China and the United States are calling for mutual benefit and cooperation in their countries’ relations, according to a recent survey conducted by CGTN and Renmin University of China. The poll, which included over 4,000 respondents aged 18 to 45 from both nations, reveals a shared desire for peaceful coexistence and collaborative progress.
At a press conference during the ongoing Two Sessions in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of harmony between the world’s largest developing and developed countries. “China and the United States will both exist on this planet for a long time, so they must coexist peacefully,” Wang stated.
The survey findings echo this sentiment, with 87.3% of Chinese respondents and 78.5% of American participants agreeing that mutual benefit is the key to resolving economic and trade issues between the two countries. A majority from both sides view their economic relations as a blend of cooperation and competition, suggesting a nuanced understanding of the bilateral ties.
Chinese respondents believe that the United States excels in areas like biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and space exploration. Meanwhile, American youths acknowledge China’s strengths in manufacturing technology, consumer electronics, and artificial intelligence. These perceptions highlight opportunities for both nations to learn from each other’s expertise.
When it comes to future cooperation, Chinese youths are eager to deepen ties in artificial intelligence, e-commerce, and healthcare. Their American counterparts are interested in collaborating on manufacturing, clean energy, and environmental protection. This indicates a shared commitment to addressing global challenges through joint efforts.
Cultural exchanges also feature prominently in the survey results. Over 75% of respondents from both countries believe that young people share common values and interests. Popular culture, including social media, animation, video games, and fashion trends, is seen as an effective way to enhance mutual understanding.
To promote youth exchanges, participants expressed interest in joint research projects, increased social media interaction, student exchange programs, cultural exchanges, and language learning. These initiatives could pave the way for stronger connections and shared innovations between the two nations.
The survey underscores a hopeful outlook among young people in China and the United States, pointing towards a future where mutual respect and cooperation guide the relationship between these two influential countries.
