Beijing, China — Senior Chinese leaders gathered on Friday for deliberations at the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s national legislature.
Top political advisor Wang Huning met with NPC deputies from the Taiwan delegation. He emphasized the importance of upholding the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, while firmly opposing separatist movements advocating for “Taiwan independence” and external interference.
“We must deepen and broaden integrated development across the Taiwan Strait, ensuring that our compatriots in Taiwan share in the opportunities and achievements of Chinese modernization,” said Wang, who serves as chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
Cai Qi, a member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, participated in a group deliberation with deputies from Qinghai Province. He highlighted the need for comprehensive reform, enhancing economic quality, and promoting sustainable growth within a reasonable range.
Cai also urged the province to strengthen ecological conservation efforts to safeguard the “water tower of China” and maximize its ecological functions. “Protecting our environment is crucial for the well-being of all our people,” he stated.
Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang attended deliberations with deputies from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions. He noted China’s solid progress in modernization and the new breakthroughs achieved in advancing the cause of “One Country, Two Systems.”
“Hong Kong and Macao should fulfill their mission of implementing ‘One Country, Two Systems’ in the new era and strive for even greater development,” Ding encouraged.
Wang, Cai, and Ding are all members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, playing pivotal roles in shaping China’s future.
