A spokesperson for the Chinese military has stated that U.S. weapons will not prevent the inevitable end of “Taiwan independence.” Speaking on Sunday, Wu Qian emphasized that efforts by separatist forces in Taiwan are futile.
“The more rampant ‘Taiwan independence’ separatists become, the tighter the noose around their necks and the sharper the sword hanging over their heads will be,” Wu said during the annual national legislative session. He reiterated that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is committed to countering separatism and promoting reunification.
Wu highlighted that patrols around the island and military deterrence have become routine in recent years. He stressed that the Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China and does not tolerate external interference.
“China’s reunification is an overriding trend,” Wu stated, noting that it is driven by both strength and the will of the people. He criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for escalating separatist actions under the illusion of support from the United States.
“They have aroused the collective indignation of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and will surely be held accountable by history and justice,” Wu added.
