Qin Weibo dazzled on the track Sunday, clinching gold in the men’s 60-meter hurdles at the Chinese National Indoor Athletics Championships in Jinan, Shandong Province. The 24-year-old hurdler not only topped the podium but also set a new personal best of 7.56 seconds.
Trailing closely behind was Zeng Jianhang, finishing just 0.03 seconds later, while Zhu Shenglong claimed third place with a time of 7.68 seconds.
“I started off with better balance today,” Qin shared after his victory. “That helped me accelerate smoothly, and I was able to win the race in the end.”
Qin’s stellar performance secured his spot at the upcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships, set to begin on March 21 in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. He joins fellow Chinese athletes Liu Junxi and Zhu Shenglong as qualifiers for the prestigious event.
This achievement has boosted Qin’s confidence as he looks ahead to the outdoor 110-meter hurdles. “I have higher expectations for the outdoor event now,” he said enthusiastically. “I usually speed up late in the race. If I can finish the first 60 meters in 7.56 seconds, I can do better in the 110-meter event, maybe better than I did last year. I will go for 13.20 seconds.”
Qin’s ambition signals a promising season ahead for China’s track and field athletes, especially with the World Championships on the horizon. His dedication and recent success have inspired fans and young athletes across the country.
The Chinese National Indoor Athletics Championships served as a platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills. With athletes like Qin pushing the boundaries, China’s presence in international athletics continues to strengthen.
