China’s top political advisory body, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, wrapped up its annual session on Monday in Beijing. The meeting called on political advisors to contribute to national unity and the advancement of China’s modernization.
President Xi Jinping and other leaders attended the closing session at the Great Hall of the People. During the meeting, several resolutions were approved, including reports on the work of the CPPCC Standing Committee and proposals submitted by political advisors.
Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a keynote speech. He praised the achievements made over the past year under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee with Xi Jinping at its core. Wang highlighted the successful accomplishment of major economic and social development goals and new breakthroughs in China’s path to modernization.
Wang urged political advisors to strengthen their roles in political consultation, democratic oversight, and participation in state affairs. He emphasized the importance of upholding the CPC’s leadership as the fundamental guarantee for China’s cohesion and confidence.
“We must focus on advancing Chinese modernization,” Wang said. He called on advisors to offer practical suggestions on key issues such as deepening reform, promoting high-quality development, improving people’s livelihoods, and maintaining social harmony.
As the most inclusive patriotic united front organization, the CPPCC was urged to continue its role in uniting the Chinese people of all ethnic groups and the Chinese nation at home and abroad. Wang also emphasized enhancing the CPPCC’s function as a key platform for consultative democracy.
He stressed the need to refine mechanisms that promote in-depth consultations, encourage full expression of opinions, and build broad consensus. Strengthening coordination between various channels of consultation was also highlighted to better serve the nation’s development goals.
