Pakistan Prioritizes Regional Connectivity at Upcoming SCO Summit

China is set to host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit this autumn in the northern municipality of Tianjin. In anticipation of the event, Pakistani Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi shared Pakistan’s key priorities during an exclusive interview.

Ambassador Hashmi emphasized that regional connectivity and economic cooperation will be at the forefront of Pakistan’s agenda at the summit. “Infrastructure development, particularly in transport and energy, is crucial for aligning the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) with the SCO Free Trade Zone,” he stated.

The ambassador highlighted the significance of integrating CPEC projects with broader SCO initiatives to enhance trade and economic ties across the region. By fostering collaboration in infrastructure, Pakistan aims to facilitate smoother trade routes and energy flows between member states.

Beyond economic cooperation, Ambassador Hashmi also spoke about promoting tourism between Pakistan and China. He recommended the picturesque Gilgit-Baltistan region as a must-visit destination for Chinese tourists, noting its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

“Strengthening people-to-people connections through tourism can greatly enhance mutual understanding and friendship between our nations,” he said. “We welcome our Chinese friends to explore the natural beauty and hospitality that Pakistan has to offer.”

The upcoming SCO summit presents an opportunity for member countries to discuss collaborative efforts in boosting regional development and fostering stronger ties. Pakistan’s focus on connectivity and tourism reflects its commitment to contributing to shared growth and prosperity in the region.
