Chinese Mainland Warns ‘Taiwan Independence’ Forces of Resolute Action

The Chinese mainland has issued a stern warning to forces advocating for “Taiwan independence,” stating that any provocation or crossing of the red line will be met with resolute action. Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made these remarks on Wednesday amid discussions about the newly unveiled 2025 government work report.

Responding to questions on whether the emphasis on “firmly advancing the cause of China’s reunification”—without specifically mentioning “peaceful reunification”—signals a policy shift, Chen reiterated that peaceful reunification and the “one country, two systems” principle remain the foundational policies for addressing the Taiwan question.

“This is the best way to achieve reunification across the Taiwan Straits and serves the interests of people on both sides and the entire Chinese nation,” Chen stated. “We are willing to make the utmost efforts with the greatest sincerity to strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification.”

However, Chen highlighted that the current situation across the Taiwan Straits is “complex and severe,” attributing tensions to the authorities of the Democratic Progressive Party colluding with external forces in pursuit of “independence.”

“We have the resolve, the confidence, and the ability to thwart any form of separatist attempts for ‘Taiwan independence,’ safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and resolutely advance China’s reunification,” he affirmed.

The Chinese mainland’s position underscores its commitment to maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits while firmly opposing any separatist activities that threaten national unity.
