Amid rising global uncertainties, China and France have pledged to resolve their economic disputes through dialogue and cooperation.
On Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation with Emmanuel Bonne, diplomatic adviser to the French president. Wang emphasized the importance of strengthening strategic coordination between the two nations, both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and comprehensive strategic partners.
“China and France should enhance high-level exchanges and cooperation to uphold multilateralism, maintain the stability of global trade and supply chains, and resist unilateralism and economic coercion,” Wang said.
He urged for the resolution of China-European Union economic disputes through consultation, calling on France to work alongside China to promote a stable China-EU relationship.
Bonne expressed France’s willingness to maintain close communication with China and jointly oppose confrontational approaches. “France opposes trade wars and tariff barriers,” he stated, highlighting the commitment to addressing economic frictions through dialogue.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of balanced and sustainable EU-China trade relations and the need to preserve the World Trade Organization-based global trade framework.
The conversation also touched upon the ongoing Ukraine crisis. Bonne outlined France’s position on the issue and acknowledged China’s role in seeking a fair, lasting, and sustainable peace agreement.
Wang reiterated China’s stance on resolving conflicts through dialogue and negotiation. “Any peace process should respect the will of the parties involved and not serve the interests of a single country,” he emphasized. “China is willing to continue working with all parties, including Europe, to promote peace.”
The two sides also exchanged views on the Iran nuclear issue, underscoring the importance of diplomatic efforts in addressing global challenges.
