China’s Growth Brings New Opportunities for China-UK Relations

At an event in London, Chinese Ambassador to the United Kingdom Zheng Zeguang urged businesses in both China and the UK to embrace the opportunities arising from China’s continued stable development.

Speaking on Monday at a discussion about China’s recent Two Sessions—the annual meetings of the National People’s Congress and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference—Zheng emphasized China’s commitment to modernization through high-quality development.

He highlighted that China aims to act as an “enabler,” contributing “more stability and positive energy for the world” in areas like economic growth, scientific innovation, green transition, and global peace.

Zheng also praised China’s political system, describing it as “the secret behind the two miracles of rapid economic development and long-term social stability” in China.

Underlining the importance of a stable and constructive relationship between China and the UK, Zheng called for both nations to maintain high-level exchanges, implement outcomes from previous dialogues, and strengthen cooperation while appropriately handling differences.

Sherard Cowper-Coles, chairman of the China-Britain Business Council, noted that the Chinese government’s report from the Two Sessions addresses serious challenges with coherent and disciplined strategies. He mentioned plans to boost consumption, increase investment, and welcome visitors from around the world, including tourists and students.

Michael Mainelli, former Lord Mayor of the City of London, remarked that it’s a pivotal moment for the UK in its relationship with China and the global community. He expressed optimism about London’s potential to deepen cooperation with China in finance, green finance, artificial intelligence, and other fields.
