Colombian officials are embracing the new opportunities arising from China’s high-quality development, highlighting the potential for collaboration in key sectors like technology, infrastructure, and energy.
At an event titled “China in Springtime: Sharing Opportunities with the World Global Dialogue” held in Bogota, the capital of Colombia, leaders from both nations discussed ways to strengthen ties and foster mutual growth.
Shen Haixiong, president of China Media Group (CMG), addressed the gathering via video, emphasizing that China’s development is deeply connected with the world. He urged countries to embrace openness and collaboration, stating that facing global challenges requires collective effort rather than isolation or “decoupling.”
Chinese Ambassador to Colombia Zhu Jingyang highlighted that 2025 marks significant anniversaries: the 45th year since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Colombia, and the 10th anniversary of the China-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States Forum. He called for both sides to seize this opportunity to work together for a brighter future.
Cielo Rusinque, Colombia’s acting minister of industry, commerce, and tourism, noted that China has remained Colombia’s second-largest global trading partner and the top source of foreign direct investment from Asia for many years. She expressed readiness to enhance cooperation with China in areas such as infrastructure, energy transition, telecommunications, and information technology.
Guillermo Puyana, president of the Colombia-China Friendship Association, praised China’s development philosophy and achievements, which have earned the admiration of Colombians over the past 45 years of diplomatic relations. He emphasized that China’s commitment to peaceful development is significant for Colombia and other Latin American countries.
Carlos Ronderos, president of the board of directors of the Colombia-China Investment and Trade Chamber, pointed out the remarkable rise of China’s technology sector. He cited examples like Chinese startup DeepSeek’s leadership in artificial intelligence and the success of the animated blockbuster “Ne Zha 2.” Ronderos remarked that China’s international influence in technology and culture has grown significantly, bringing valuable stability to a world facing turbulence and uncertainty.
The dialogue in Bogota underscores the growing relationship between China and Colombia, with both nations eager to explore new avenues of cooperation that can benefit their economies and people.
