China is witnessing a significant surge in foreign visitors, thanks to enhanced visa policies and improved travel measures. Since easing travel restrictions, the number of international travelers entering the country has risen sharply, signaling a strong recovery in the tourism sector.
Eased Visa Policies Boost Tourism
The Chinese authorities have implemented more flexible visa policies, including extended visa-free transit periods in major cities. Travelers from 53 countries can now enjoy a 144-hour visa-free transit in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, allowing them to explore without the hassle of obtaining a full visa for short stays.
Major Hubs Experience Influx
Beijing’s airports have reported a substantial increase in passenger traffic. The Beijing Daxing International Airport has streamlined immigration procedures to accommodate the growing number of visitors, ensuring a smooth arrival experience for international travelers.
In southwest China’s Yunnan Province, border towns like Mohan are becoming key gateways for tourists, especially those from neighboring countries in Southeast Asia. The introduction of visa-free group tours for ASEAN countries has further encouraged cross-border travel.
Technological Innovations Enhance Travel
Airports and border checkpoints across China are adopting new technologies to expedite immigration processes. At Harbin Taiping International Airport in northeast China, self-service kiosks and increased immigration lanes have significantly reduced wait times for incoming passengers. “We’ve expanded our manual verification lanes and added express lanes to handle the growing number of foreign visitors,” said Zhang Wei, deputy chief of Harbin Border Inspection Station.
A Welcome Return to Global Tourism
The influx of foreign visitors marks a positive turn for China’s tourism industry, which is eager to welcome back international travelers. The combination of relaxed visa rules and enhanced travel infrastructure positions China as an increasingly accessible and attractive destination for global tourists.
