Ex-Kyrgyzstan Leader Says US Tariffs Push Global South to New Alliances
In a recent interview with CGTN, Djoomart Otorbaev, former Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan and senior fellow at the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China, discussed how US tariffs are reshaping global trade dynamics.
Otorbaev pointed out that the tariffs imposed by the United States are having unintended consequences. “Many countries in the Global South are feeling the ripple effects,” he said. “They’re now seeking alternative markets and forming new partnerships to navigate these challenges.”
He explained that these nations are turning towards each other to strengthen regional ties and economic cooperation. “This shift could lead to a more balanced global economy where developing countries have greater influence,” Otorbaev remarked.
The former prime minister stressed the importance of collaboration. “By working together, countries can mitigate the negative impacts of trade barriers and promote sustainable growth,” he added.
Otorbaev’s insights highlight a significant trend: as traditional trade relationships evolve, emerging economies are stepping up to create new opportunities and alliances.
