Huawei Unveils Pura X: Its First Foldable Smartphone with HarmonyOS Next

Huawei has just launched the Pura X, its first foldable smartphone powered by HarmonyOS Next, marking a significant step in mobile innovation. The Pura X boasts a unique sideways-opening design, expanding into a 6.3-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, offering a tablet-like experience in a compact form.

At the unveiling event in south China’s Shenzhen, Yu Chengdong, head of Huawei’s consumer business, highlighted that HarmonyOS Next provides a vastly improved user experience, enhancing overall device performance by 40%. He emphasized that the new operating system is more secure than its competitors, reducing authorization pop-ups by 76% and intercepting unreasonable permission requests.

HarmonyOS Next supports over 20,000 native applications and includes more than 150 system updates. The OS fully embraces the Internet of Everything concept and introduces AI-powered intelligent experiences. Notable AI features include an assistant accessible via the external screen and an AI-driven eye-page-turning function.

Tech enthusiasts are already praising the Pura X. Chinese tech media outlet GeekPark hailed it as “possibly the first generation AI-native smartphone.” Yu also announced plans for a HarmonyOS Next-native laptop, expected to launch in May, signaling Huawei’s commitment to building an integrated ecosystem.
