Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited the city of Lijiang in southwest China’s Yunnan Province on Wednesday afternoon, highlighting the importance of sustainable tourism and modern agriculture.
While touring the historic Old Town of Lijiang, Xi strolled along the stone-paved streets, engaging with locals and tourists alike. “The town’s culture, scenery, and folk traditions are truly captivating,” he remarked. Xi emphasized the need for the cultural and tourism industry to pursue sustainable and healthy development, noting that the integration of culture and tourism has significantly boosted the local economy. “I wish you all happiness and good health,” he told the crowd.
Later, at a modern flower industry park in Lijiang, Xi met with villagers and agricultural technicians. He inquired about the variety of flowers grown, market sales, and the villagers’ incomes. The locals shared that they earn over 4,000 yuan (about $557) monthly, with incomes surpassing 7,000 yuan during peak seasons. “Growing flowers is a truly joyful job,” they said. Delighted by their success, Xi said, “Your endeavor is thriving and aligns with the development path of modern agriculture. May your lives be as beautiful as flowers.”
Xi’s visit underscores China’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in both tourism and agriculture, aiming to enhance the well-being of communities in regions like Yunnan.
